Southern Voices’ Christmas concert takes place in St Cross on 17 December at 7.30pm. This will be our conductor’s last concert with us and promises to be a memorable occasion. Music from 13th Century to 2oth (potentially 21st with Simpson), including the German Magnificat from Schütz, O Magnum Mysterium from Lauridsen and various congregational carols. Join Southern Voices for a celebration of the wonders of nature and creativity of man in the concert hall setting of St Swithun’s Performing Arts Centre.
The 40-strong choir will present a programme of secular music interspersed with readings inspired by earth, sea and sky. Works will include Vaughan Williams’ Three Shakespeare Songs, a 16 part transcription from Mahler’s Ruckert Lieder, Italian madrigals, English romantic part songs and two stunning and inspirational compositions by contemporary American musician Eric Whitacre – Cloudburst and Leonardo dreams of his flying machine.
